I remember when my mom let me get my first MAC eyeshadow. I had to be about 11 years old, and I picked the most age appropriate color.....frosty turquoise. And I wore the s*&% out of that eyeshadow, until it "accidentally" went missing....pretty sure my mom hid it from me. I'm not bitter, I swear.
Anywho, fast forward to my junior year of college, when I picked out my first 4 pan palette from MAC. I can't be sure exactly what colors were in that quad...but it was all neutrals. Go me! I have a pretty decent variety of shades, and finishes. My personal favorites are the satins. I'm going to swatch each shade with, and without a primer, so you can get a better idea of pigmentation. (using MAC's paint pot in Painterly as my primer)
BTW! I keep my depotted MAC shadows in a Z-palette that my lovely sister got me for my birthday. I think it was a limited edition version. It's the medium size, with a frosted blue leathery trim. Love me some frosted blues :)
You can purchase MAC eyeshadows online at maccosmetics.com, MAC stores, or at select department stores. They run $15.00 if you buy it in the little pot, and $10.00 if you buy them online in pan form. I believe you can also buy the pans at MAC Pro stores, but I know you can't get the pans at counters or normal stores.

Blanc Type
|
Left: No Primer Right: Painterly Paint Pot by MAC |
PERFECT highlight shade for when you want a subtle look. It's a little powdery when I swatch it with my finger, but applied on the browbone with a flat shader....perfection. It's also nice if you want to do a "no-makeup makeup" look. Just swipe it over the lid, and it helps to correct discoloration. Matte2
finish.
Phloof!
|
Left: No Primer Right: Painterly Paint Pot by MAC |
Phloof is a beautiful, shimmery cool-toned highlight, with a pinkish undertone. Personally, I find it to be a little much for under the browbone, but I love to use it in my inner corner. It really brightens up my eyes. It would be perfect on the lid if you are looking for a bright, shimmery look. It is a Frost finish. |
All That Glitters
|
Left: No Primer Right: Painterly Paint Pot by MAC |
If I had to recommend one MAC eyeshadow...this would be the chosen one. All That Glitters is the perfect champagne color for the lid. On darker skintones, it would be beautiful as a highlight. It isn't warm or cool, rather inbetween. I love this color. If I'm doing a quick look, I'm swiping this all over my lid, and using Blanc Type as my highlight, and I'm good to go. Such a pretty color. Veluxe pearl finish. |
Sable
|
Left: No Primer Right: Painterly Paint Pot by MAC |
Sable is a medium-toned bronzey shade. It pulls almost purple on me. This color is really pretty as a lid color, but I like to wear it in the crease as well for some shimmer. It is a Velvet finish. |
Amber Lights
|
Left: No Primer Right: Painterly Paint Pot by MAC |
Amber Lights is a true gold shade. It has an almost metallic finish. I love this color for a warm eye look. It is pretty by itself, or used as the lid color for a smokey eye. Very pigmented. MAC lists this as a Frost finish, but I would say it is more of a Velvet finish. Either way, it is beautiful. |
Patina
|
Left: No Primer Right: Painterly Paint Pot by MAC |
This is a really unique shade. It is a taupey, almost greenish brown, with golden undertones. This almost has a golden duo-chrome look to it in the light. It is a really pretty color, and looks good on all skin tones. Frost finish. I guess I agree with this one :) |
Satin Taupe
|
Left: No Primer Right: Painterly Paint Pot by MAC |
Okay, I would be pretty shocked if you were to tell me that you've never heard of Satin Taupe. It is a cult favorite, and I'm pretty sure that there are love songs about this shade. There is definitely a reason for the following. It is a true taupe shade, with a silver shimmer to it. I love to use this on the lid for a smokey purple eye. It is richly pigmented, easy to work with, and looks great on everyone. Frost finish (ehhhhhh... coughvelvetcough) |
Handwritten
|
Left: No Primer Right: Painterly Paint Pot by MAC |
This color is a beautiful matte brown. To me, it has a warm purple look to it. MAC describes it as a chocolate brown. This is my favorite color to use when I want to darken up an eye look. It adds subtle depth, and it is easy to both blend, and build up. A staple for me. Matte2 finish. |
Sketch
|
Left: No Primer Right: Painterly Paint Pot by MAC |
Sketch is a plummy purple, with reddish sparkles. This color is one of the only ones I have a problem with. I'm not sure if I just got one from a bad batch, but mine is stiff, and very hard to get good pigment from. Which is weird, because people always rave about this shade. Meh, I still like it....just takes some patience when applying. Maybe I need to try and scrape a layer off? But that pains me......Velvet finish. |
Saddle
|
Left: No Primer Right: Painterly Paint Pot by MAC |
Saddle is the perfect warm brown, that looks amazing in the crease. I love to use this to blend out Amber Lights. It is great for summer, when you want a little warmer blending color. Looks great on blue eyes, as it tends to pull a little orangish. Matte2 finish. |
Coppering
|
Left: No Primer Right: Painterly Paint Pot by MAC |
LOOOVE this color. It is a beautiful orangey/red copper (original right?) It's got a beautiful sheen, and it really brings out my blue eyes. I tend to wear this on its own, blended up into the crease, due to it being such a bright shade. Great for summer! Veluxe Pearl finish. |
Club
|
Left: No Primer Right: Painterly Paint Pot by MAC |
I feel like this another highly talked about MAC eyeshadow. Probably due to it's unique duochrome. It is a reddish-brown shade that has a greenish blue duochrome. I hope the swatches do a good job of capturing how the light changes this color. It is perfect on the lid, and blended up into the crease. It transforms depending where and how it is applied. I really like this one. Satin finish. |
Trax
|
Left: No Primer Right: Painterly Paint Pot by MAC |
This is a pretty lavender/plum color, with gold sparkle throughout. If I want a warmer colorful smokey eye, I will use this on the lid. It is really pretty, and looks beautiful on brown eyes. Velvet finish. |
Humid
|
Left: No Primer Right: Painterly Paint Pot by MAC |
This is a true forest green, with a nice shimmer to it. It brings out the hazel in my eyes. It is extremely pigmented, and easy to apply. It is not often that I think "hmmm today is a green eyeshadow day"...but when I do want a fun pop of color, I gravitate towards this shade. It is a Frost finish. |
Soft Brown
Left: No Primer Right: Painterly Paint Pot by MAC
The lone potted eyeshadow of the gang. I use this pretty much everyday, and it comes with me everywhere, so it made sense for me to keep it by itself. This is the perfect blending shade. It is exactly as the name states - a nice soft brown shade. No matter what look I'm going with, I apply this first to help make the blending and transition process easier. This is another staple for me. Matte finish.
Thanks for reading! What are your favorite MAC eyeshadows?
Have a great Saturday :)
